Elevator Action II (Ver 2.2A 1995 02 20)

Released on February 20, 1995 by iconic Japanese arcade developer and publisher Taito, Elevator Action II (Ver 2.2A) is a high-octane run-and-gun reimagining of the beloved 1983 stealth platformer original. This final official arcade build fixes minor hitbox glitches from earlier test versions, adjusts enemy spawn rates for balanced difficulty across all three play tiers, and adds a hidden bonus level for skilled players. Unlike the slower, stealth-focused first entry, this 1995 iteration lets players choose from three distinct playable characters: heavy weapons expert Brad Fang, agile secret agent Sarah Phillips, and balanced all-rounder Kyle Powers, each with unique starting weapons, health stats, and movement speeds to suit different playstyles. Set across 8 multi-story levels spanning skyscrapers, subway stations, and secret terrorist military facilities, your core mission stays true to the franchise’s roots: infiltrate each building, collect all top-secret data files hidden behind

Game Guide

Start your run by picking a character that matches your playstyle: opt for Brad Fang if you prefer brute force, as his starting grenade launcher takes out groups of enemies and locked doors in one hit, though his larger hitbox makes him easier to target. Choose Sarah Phillips if you prioritize speed and dodging, as she boasts 15% faster movement, a fast-firing submachine gun, and a smaller hitbox that lets her slip past enemy fire in tight elevator shafts. Kyle Powers is ideal for new players, with a balanced assault rifle, average health, and mid-tier speed that works for all level types. Never stay in one elevator for more than 5 seconds at a time: enemies regularly spawn on floors above and below you, and can open elevator doors from the outside to fire if you linger. Prioritize red-marked doors first, as these hold mandatory data files required to clear the level, while blue doors hold bonus weapons (shotguns, rocket launchers, temporary invincibility) and health pickups worth grabbing if you have extra time. When fighting enemy waves, use elevator door frames as cover, and only pop out to fire when enemies are reloading. For the mid-game helicopter boss, stay on the parking garage level’s middle floor, moving between elevators to avoid rocket barrages, and fire at its cockpit whenever it dips low to use its machine gun. The final syndicate boss has a weak point on his cybernetic left arm: focus all fire there first to disable his rocket launcher, then target his head to take him down in under 30 seconds. To unlock the secret bonus level, collect every data file on the first five levels without using a continue, and you’ll gain access to a hidden warehouse with unlimited ammo and 5 extra health pickups to stock up for the final levels.
