Dungeons Dragons - shadow over mystara (960619 Euro)

Released in June 1996 as the European 960619 build for Capcom’s CPS-2 arcade hardware, Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara is one of the most celebrated side-scrolling beat ‘em up ARCADE titles ever developed, serving as the sequel to 1993’s Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom. Published by Capcom under official license from TSR (the original owner of the D&D IP), the game merges classic high fantasy D&D lore, deep role-playing mechanics, and satisfying arcade brawling action to stand out dramatically from simpler arcade brawlers of the mid-90s. Players can choose from six distinct playable classes: Fighter, Cleric, Elf, Dwarf, Thief, and Magic-User, each with unique stats, custom ability sets, unique spell lists, and progression paths. Unlike most arcade titles of its era, Shadow over Mystara features branching level paths, a wide array of equippable weapons, armor, and consumable items, password-enabled progress saving to carry over upgrades across play sessions, and multiple endin

Game Guide

If you are new to the game, start with the Fighter class first: they boast high base health, simple-to-master melee combos, and no complex spell management requirements, making them ideal for learning core mechanics before trying more advanced classes like the Magic-User or Cleric. Always keep a minimum of 3 healing potions in your quick item slot at all times, as boss fights deal massive burst damage that can knock you out in seconds if you do not react fast. When choosing between early branching level paths, pick the goblin camp route first if you are playing a low-level character: it rewards far more experience points early on to unlock upgrades faster, while the swamp path is filled with status effect-inflicting enemies that are far harder for underleveled characters to survive. For multiplayer groups, assign clear roles to maximize efficiency: have the Cleric focus on party healing and crowd control spells like Hold Person, the Magic-User save high-damage AoE spells like Fireball for large enemy crowds and boss weak points, the Dwarf and Fighter handle frontline tanking to draw aggro away from squishy spellcasters, and the Thief prioritize unlocking hidden chests scattered across levels that hold rare, powerful items like +3 swords and fire resistance rings. Never waste limited spell charges on small, weak enemies like goblins and kobolds: save them for elite enemies like ogre mages, trolls, and end-of-level bosses, as spell charges only refill at specific rest points across the map. When fighting the final boss Synn, target her glowing staff first to disable her most powerful magic attacks, then focus on her exposed head weak point immediately after she finishes casting a spell, when her guard is lowered. If you die mid-run, note down the 8-character password shown on the game over screen, which lets you resume your run with all your earned items, levels, and upgrades when you start a new game. Always break destructible objects like crates and cracked stone wa
