Start by familiarizing yourself with the core control scheme first: use the 4-way joystick to move Clovis left, right, up ladders, or down to crouch, press the attack button to swing your sword at close-range enemies, and hit the jump button to cross gaps or dodge incoming attacks. Since this version has no sound effects, you will need to rely entirely on visual cues to avoid taking unnecessary damage: watch for enemy attack animations (such as a skeleton raising its club, or a slime bouncing into the air) and move or jump out of the way immediately when you see these cues, as you will not get the audio warning you would hear in the full version. When exploring each dungeon floor, prioritize picking up small keys first, as you will need one key to unlock the boss door at the end of every castle. Look for hidden breakable walls in dark corridors, as these often hide health-restoring potions, extra keys, or rare power-ups that increase your sword damage for the rest of the level. For boss fights, learn each boss’s attack pattern: the dragon bosses will always pause for half a second before breathing fire, so you can jump over the fire stream and strike their head during their cooldown period to deal maximum damage. Try to avoid taking unnecessary hits from regular enemies, as your health bar does not regenerate automatically between floors, and you only have three lives to complete the entire game. If you get low on health, backtrack to earlier floors to look for hidden potion spawns instead of pushing forward into the boss fight, as most boss attacks will take off half your health bar in a single hit.
