DoDonPachi (International, master ver. 97 02 05)

First released in arcades worldwide in February 1997 by Japanese developer Cave, DoDonPachi (International, master ver. 97 02 05) is the second entry in the iconic DonPachi bullet hell shoot 'em up (STG) franchise, widely regarded as one of the most influential arcade shooters of all time. This official master version, finalized on February 5, 1997, fixes all known bugs from earlier arcade builds, adjusts difficulty for international audiences, and retains the series' signature core gameplay that defined the bullet hell genre for decades. Players choose from three distinct fighter jets: Type A (narrow forward fire, high movement speed, ideal for precision play), Type B (homing missile support, balanced stats, perfect for new players), and Type C (wide spread fire, ideal for clearing crowds of small enemy units quickly). Each ship features two firing modes: a rapid-fire spread shot for taking out groups of foes, and a concentrated laser beam that deals massive damage to single targets,

Game Guide

Mastering DoDonPachi (International, master ver. 97 02 05) takes consistent practice, but these core tips will help you survive even the densest bullet patterns and climb the global leaderboards. First, pick the right ship for your playstyle: new players should start with Type A, as its narrow fire makes it easy to focus on high-priority targets, and its fast movement speed lets you dart out of tight spots quickly. If you struggle with tracking enemies off-screen, Type B's homing missiles will take out peripheral foes automatically, so you can focus entirely on dodging incoming fire. For players who prioritize clearing waves fast to maintain combos, Type C's wide spread fire will wipe out entire rows of small enemies in seconds. Next, prioritize maintaining your combo streak at all costs: each kill adds to your combo multiplier, which resets if you go more than 1.5 seconds without killing an enemy. For maximum score, use your laser to take out larger enemies at close range, as this awards twice the score of a standard spread shot kill. Don't hoard your bombs: each bomb clears all on-screen bullets and deals massive damage to bosses, so use one immediately if you get trapped in a bullet pattern you can't escape, rather than losing a life (which resets your firepower and combo streak entirely). When fighting bosses, take time to learn their attack patterns first instead of rushing to deal damage: every boss has 3 to 4 distinct attack phases, each with predictable bullet trajectories that you can dodge with small, controlled movements, rather than large, erratic dashes. Once you fill your hyper meter by earning combos and picking up hyper items, activate it during dense bullet waves: hyper mode boosts your firepower dramatically, and lets your standard shots cancel out enemy bullets, giving you a brief window to push for higher combos or clear a safe path through an otherwise unpassable attack.
