Dimahoo (000121 USA Phoenix Edition) [Bootleg]

First released in 2000 by Capcom for the CPS-2 arcade system board, Dimahoo (officially titled Great Mahou Daisakusen in its native Japanese market) is a beloved vertical scrolling bullet hell shooter that blends whimsical fantasy themes, blisteringly fast action, and memorable quirky character design. The (000121 USA Phoenix Edition) [Bootleg] build available here is a modified, unofficial variant of the game’s official North American release, tuned to offer a more accessible experience for casual retro shooter fans while retaining all the core gameplay that made the original a cult classic. Unlike the official arcade release, which limited continues and featured harsh difficulty spikes designed to drive coin purchases, this Phoenix Edition bootleg includes unlimited continues, 5 starting lives (up from 2 in the official build), and slightly toned down enemy bullet density for the first three stages, making it perfect for players who want to experience the full story and all boss figh

Game Guide

To get the most out of your playthrough of Dimahoo (000121 USA Phoenix Edition) [Bootleg], start by picking a character that aligns with your preferred playstyle. If you prefer clearing crowds of small grunt enemies quickly, choose the elven archer Mil, whose wide spread shot covers 60% of the screen width and deals consistent low-to-mid damage to all targets in its path. If you prioritize high single-target damage for fast boss takedowns, go for the dragon knight Batsu, whose focused laser beam cuts through enemy armor 3x faster than other characters’ primary attacks, though it only covers a narrow vertical line. Collect every golden coin floating across the screen: each coin fills 1% of your magic gauge, and a full gauge lets you trigger a screen-clearing super attack that eliminates all active enemy bullets and deals massive damage to any boss on screen. Unlike the original arcade release, this bootleg gives you extra starting lives, so don’t hoard your super attacks—use them whenever you get overwhelmed by dense bullet patterns, especially during the stage 4 and 5 mass enemy rushes. Keep in mind your hitbox is far smaller than your character sprite: focus on keeping the tiny glowing dot at the center of your character away from incoming fire, rather than trying to move your entire sprite out of the way. During boss fights, watch for telltale animation cues that signal new attack patterns: for example, the stage 3 giant crab boss will raise both claws right before firing a wide radial bullet burst, giving you 2 full seconds to move to the far left or right edge of the screen to avoid damage. Thanks to unlimited continues in this build, you can experiment with different routes and attack strategies without restarting the entire game if you lose all your lives.
