Double Dragon II - The Revenge (US bootleg, set 2) [Bootleg]

Double Dragon II - The Revenge (US Bootleg, Set 2) is an unauthorized, cult-favorite arcade variant of the iconic 1988 beat 'em up developed by Technōs Japan and officially published by Taito for global arcade markets. Circulating in US arcades throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, this bootleg set 2 version features deliberate modifications not present in the official retail release, designed to make the game more accessible to casual players who did not want to spend dozens of quarters on the notoriously difficult official build. Key tweaks include reduced enemy health, 4 starting lives instead of the official 2, adjusted enemy spawn patterns that reduce surprise swarms, and minor audio and sprite quirks that became beloved signatures for players who encountered this version in local neighborhood arcades. The core plot remains identical to the official release: after martial artists Billy and Jimmy Lee’s girlfriend Marian is murdered by the criminal Shadow Warriors syndicate, th

Game Guide

This bootleg version of Double Dragon II has adjusted mechanics that make it easier than the official release, but you still need solid strategy to beat all four stages without running out of lives. First, master the core control set: use the 8-way joystick to move, and three action buttons for punch, kick, and jump. Your most reliable basic move is the three-punch combo, which stuns regular enemies in just two hits in this build, letting you follow up with a quick kick to knock them into other oncoming foes for efficient crowd control. Avoid wasting your high-damage jump kick (jump + kick) on low-tier grunts like Williams and Linda; save it for bulky, high-health enemies like Abobo and Burnov, who can take far more regular hits. Unlike the official release, this bootleg gives you 4 starting lives, so you can afford to be slightly more aggressive, but never let enemies flank you: always position yourself against a wall or edge of the screen so you only have to face foes from one direction. For stage 1, grab the baseball bat or knife spawn near the start of the level, as weapons one-shot almost all regular enemies in this build, cutting your clear time in half. When facing the stage 1 boss Burnov, avoid his charging punch by jumping over him, then land three quick hits to his back before jumping away again, repeating until he falls. On stage 2, listen for the high-pitched audio cue that signals falling crates, and dodge out of their path immediately to avoid taking unnecessary damage. When fighting stage 2 boss Chin Taimei, use short jump kicks to get inside the range of his long bo staff, then land two punches before jumping back to avoid his counterattack. On the stage 3 helicopter platform, stick close to your partner if playing 2-player co-op, as this bootleg spawns slightly more enemies than the official build on this level, and covering each other’s backs is the only way to avoid being swarmed. For the final boss Willy, who carries a one-shot gun even in this e
