Mastering Darius (US) requires a mix of pattern recognition, smart power-up management, and strategic level routing to survive the Belsar empire’s assault. First, familiarize yourself with the three core power-ups dropped by colored enemy formations: red orbs upgrade your main laser fire, up to 4 tiers of spread or focused beam damage that lets you melt through large enemy groups and boss armor quickly; green orbs upgrade your homing missiles, which automatically track off-screen and hidden enemies that would otherwise ambush you from the top and bottom of the wide playfield; blue orbs activate and upgrade your shield, which can absorb up to 3 hits before breaking, a critical lifeline on higher difficulty paths. Always prioritize collecting matching power-up colors first, as stacking different types will reset your upgrade progress for that category. When selecting branching levels after each boss fight, stick to lower-numbered zones (A, B, C) for your first few runs, as higher zones (D, E, F, G) feature far more aggressive enemy spawns and complex boss patterns.
