If you are new to Darius (Japan), start by prioritizing power-up collection in the following order: first grab blue shield power ups, as a single hit will strip you of all upgraded weapons if you have no active shield, and the Japanese version drops shields more frequently in early zones to reduce frustration. Next, collect red power ups to upgrade your main shot, and green power ups to unlock and boost side missiles. For path selection early on, pick the lower zone option after clearing Zone A: lower paths feature slower enemy spawn rates and less aggressive boss patterns for new players, while upper paths are reserved for advanced players chasing higher scores. Most aquatic enemies move in predictable wave patterns, so avoid lingering in the center of the screen for too long, as off-screen enemies frequently fire aimed shots directly at the center position. For every boss, focus fire exclusively on their clearly marked weak points, usually located on their head or open mouth: for example, the first boss King Fossil only takes damage when it opens its mouth to fire laser blasts, so save your fully charged main shots (unlocked at 3 red power ups) for these windows. If you lose a life, the Japanese version spawns a full set of power ups near your respawn point, so move carefully to collect them without taking extra hits to get back to full strength quickly.
