Crock-Man (Marti Colls bootleg of Rene Pierre Crock-Man) [Bootleg]

Welcome to PLAYERETRO’s official page for Crock-Man (Marti Colls bootleg of Rene Pierre Crock-Man) [Bootleg], a beloved rare arcade bootleg title first launched in 1982 by Spanish independent bootleg game developer Marti Colls. The title is an unlicensed adaptation of Rene Pierre’s 1981 official Crock-Man arcade release, a French-made Pac-Man-inspired game that swapped the iconic yellow dot-eater for a mischievous crocodile protagonist that hunts for small fish across maze-like swamp levels. Marti Colls’ bootleg version gained massive popularity across European arcades in the early 1980s thanks to its intentional tweaks to the original game’s design: developers increased the movement speed of enemy units, adjusted maze layouts to feature more narrow, challenging corridors, and added exclusive hidden bonus items that did not appear in the official Rene Pierre release. Unlike many low-quality bootlegs of the era, this version of Crock-Man featured polished sprite work, stable performance

Game Guide

Mastering Crock-Man (Marti Colls bootleg) is easy to learn but hard to perfect, and these tips will help you clear levels and top our global leaderboards. First, familiarize yourself with the core controls: use your keyboard’s arrow keys to move your crocodile protagonist up, down, left, and right across the swamp maze. Your core goal for every level is to eat every small fish scattered across the maze to advance to the next stage, while avoiding contact with the four enemy swamp hunters that patrol the corridors. Each hunter has a unique movement pattern you can learn to outsmart: the red hunter actively tracks your current position at all times, the blue hunter predicts your next move to cut you off, the pink hunter patrols the sections of the maze with the highest concentration of fish, and the yellow hunter moves at random. Prioritize clearing fish from the outer edges of the maze first in early levels, when hunters move slower, so you only have to navigate the more crowded central areas once most enemies have been lured away. Each level includes four large frog power-ups scattered across the maze: eating one will turn all hunters blue and vulnerable for 10 seconds, and you can eat them for bonus points that double with each consecutive hunter eaten, topping out at 1600 points per hunter. Starting on level 3, a hidden golden crocodile egg will spawn once you have eaten 70% of the fish on a level, and collecting it awards 10,000 bonus points, the single highest scoring item in the game. For advanced players: starting on level 6, all hunters move at the same speed as your character, so avoid lingering in narrow dead ends where you can be trapped. Starting on level 10, a fifth black hunter spawns that is never vulnerable to frog power-ups, so prioritize avoiding it at all times if you want to keep your run going.
