Mastering Commando (World) relies on a mix of strategic positioning, resource management, and quick reflexes to survive the game’s increasingly difficult enemy waves. First, familiarize yourself with the core controls: use the 8-way joystick to move Super Joe across the map, the fire button to shoot your rifle in any direction you face, and the grenade button to throw explosive ordnance. The number one rule to avoid losing lives is to never stay stationary for more than a second: enemy soldiers, snipers, and turrets will target your position constantly, so continuous, deliberate movement will help you dodge incoming crossfire. Never waste your limited stock of grenades on single infantry units: save them for clustered groups of 3 or more enemies, armored jeeps, tank units, and boss fight weak points. If you find yourself completely surrounded by enemy forces, a single well-placed grenade will clear a path to safety instantly. Make frequent use of the sandbag obstacles scattered across each level: these barriers block all standard enemy rifle fire, so you can crouch behind them to take out incoming troops from a safe position without taking damage. As you advance through the vertically scrolling levels, avoid rushing forward too quickly: if you move past groups of enemies before eliminating them, they will follow you from behind, leaving you trapped between incoming frontline units and stragglers from earlier sections.
