Calorie Kun vs Moguranian (bootleg)

Calorie Kun vs Moguranian (bootleg) is an unlicensed, modified ARCADE adaptation of the original 1986 Taito action-puzzle title, widely circulated in unregulated coin-op arcades across Asia, Europe, and North America from the late 1980s to early 1990s. Built for standard 8-way joystick and single-button arcade cabinets, the bootleg version retains the core premise of the official release: players take control of Calorie Kun, a cheerful health-focused mascot tasked with defending his neighborhood snack store from hordes of mischievous Moguranian, mole-like creatures that burrow out of holes to steal food and disrupt local calorie balance. Unlike the official Taito release, the bootleg iteration comes with tuned gameplay parameters adjusted by unlicensed distributors to increase arcade revenue: enemy spawn rates are 30% faster, life power-ups are 50% rarer, and later-stage enemies deal extra damage on contact. The bootleg also adds 4 exclusive bonus stages not featured in the official re

Game Guide

Mastering Calorie Kun vs Moguranian (bootleg) requires a mix of fast reflexes, strategic movement, and knowledge of the bootleg’s exclusive mechanics to reach high scores and clear all 16 stages. First, familiarize yourself with core controls: use the 8-way joystick to move Calorie Kun across the grid of holes, and press the action button to swing your hammer, which has a 1-tile range directly in front of you. Prioritize targets by their reward value first: always hit Moguranians with milk cartons above their heads first, as they grant a 1,000-point bonus and 2 seconds of invincibility that lets you walk through enemy attacks without taking damage. Moguranians with cake icons grant a half-screen clear that wipes out all active enemies on the map, so save these for when you are surrounded by 4 or more foes. For the bootleg’s exclusive faster spawn rate, never stand within 1 tile of an empty hole for more than 2 seconds: unannounced Moguranians will jump out to hit you for an instant life loss, so stick to a zig-zag movement pattern that covers 3 to 4 adjacent holes at a time instead of camping one spot. Starting at stage 3, you will encounter brown elite Moguranians that require two hammer hits to defeat: do not swing your hammer twice in a row, as the 0.3-second post-swing cooldown will leave you vulnerable to the rock they throw after their first hit. Instead, hit them once, step back 1 tile to dodge the rock, then move forward to land the finishing blow. Every 5 stages, you will face the giant Moguranian boss, which only spawns in the 4 corner holes of the map: wait for it to fully emerge before swinging, as hitting it while it is half-buried deals no damage, and dodge the explosive bombs it throws by moving to the center of the map between spawns. Finally, keep an eye out for the rare red apple power-up that only spawns on stages 4, 8, and 12: grabbing it grants an extra life, which is critical for clearing the final 4 high-difficulty stages where enemy spawn rat
