Caliber 50

Caliber 50 is a classic top-down run-and-gun arcade game developed and published by Visco Corporation in 1989, first launching in Japanese arcades before rolling out to North American and European arcade halls later the same year. Set in a fictional war-torn tropical combat zone, the game puts players in the boots of a highly trained special forces operative tasked with infiltrating enemy territory, taking down hostile military convoys, eliminating high-value enemy commanders, and destroying enemy weapons caches to turn the tide of the conflict. Unlike many side-scrolling shooters of the same era, Caliber 50 uses a top-down isometric perspective that gives players full 360-degree movement control across sprawling, multi-path levels, each packed with hidden items, enemy ambushes, and destructible environmental elements. Players start with a basic semi-automatic rifle, but can collect a wide range of power-ups scattered across levels, including rocket launchers, flamethrowers, high-capac

Game Guide

Mastering Caliber 50 takes practice, but these proven tips will help you beat even the hardest levels and take down every boss without burning through all your quarters. First, always prioritize 360-degree awareness when moving through open areas. Enemies can spawn from all sides of the screen, including behind you, so avoid rushing forward blindly. Take time to clear out every enemy in your immediate vicinity before moving to the next section of the level, especially in jungle areas where enemy snipers hide behind palm trees and underbrush. Second, match your weapon to the situation you’re facing. The basic rifle is reliable for taking out single distant enemies, but switch to the flamethrower when you’re facing clusters of infantry at close range, as it can take out up to 5 enemies at once with a single burst. Save your rocket launcher ammo for armored vehicles, tanks, and boss fights, as it deals 10x more damage to armored targets than standard weapons. Don’t waste grenades on regular infantry either – hold onto them for ambushes where 6 or more enemies spawn at once, or for boss weak points that are hard to hit with regular fire. Third, always take hidden side paths when you spot them. Most levels have off-the-beaten-path routes hidden behind destructible walls (you can blow these up with a single grenade or rocket blast) that hold rare permanent health upgrades, 30-second unlimited ammo power-ups, and bonus 1UP collectibles that give you an extra life. If you’re playing in co-op mode, split up your roles to cover more ground: have one player focus on taking out ground infantry and close-range threats, while the other handles anti-air fire and long-range snipers, and share power-ups evenly to avoid leaving one player under-equipped for boss fights. For boss encounters, always target the glowing weak point first instead of wasting fire on armored sections, and spend the first 30 seconds learning their predictable attack patterns before unloading your strongest we
