Mastering Breakers’ core mechanics will help you climb the tournament ladder and take down the final boss Bai Hu with ease. First, familiarize yourself with the standard 4-button arcade control scheme: two punch buttons (light and heavy) and two kick buttons (light and heavy), with no dedicated medium attack buttons like other fighting games of the era. For basic defense, hold back on the joystick to block incoming high and mid attacks, or hold down-back to block low sweeps and low kicks. One of the game’s most unique mechanics is the "Breakers Cancel" system, which lets you interrupt most normal attacks mid-animation to chain into a special move or super move, as long as you have enough meter in your power gauge. The power gauge fills automatically as you land attacks, take damage, or block incoming hits, and a full gauge lets you unleash a devastating super move that deals up to 40% of an opponent’s health. For new players, start with the protagonist Sho Kamui, whose move set is simple to learn and features easy-to-execute combos: his standard 3-light punch chain can be canceled into his Rising Dragon Punch special move for a quick, high-damage combo that works against most AI opponents. When facing faster characters like Tia, avoid spamming slow, heavy attacks, as she can easily dodge and punish you with fast aerial combos. When fighting heavy, slow characters like Condor Heads, use quick hit-and-run tactics, landing light attacks and jumping away before they can land their high-damage grapple moves. To beat the final boss Bai Hu, learn to dodge his long-range fireball attacks by jumping over them, then punish him with a quick combo as he recovers from his attack animation. Avoid blocking his super move, as it breaks guard and deals massive damage, so dodge sideways instead.
