Mastering Blades of Steel (version E, Trackball) starts with learning to work with the trackball’s natural control flow instead of fighting against it. First, avoid violently spinning the trackball to move quickly: ice has realistic skating inertia in the game, so sharp, fast spins will often send your skater sliding out of position or past the puck entirely. Instead, use steady, controlled rolls to adjust your speed and direction, and leave a small buffer of space when moving to intercept passes or close in on a defending player to account for sliding momentum. On offense, prioritize quick, short passes over long solo rushes against AI opponents, which are almost always intercepted by defensive skaters. For the highest goal percentage, work the puck down the wings, then pass directly to a center skater waiting just inside the faceoff circle, then flick the trackball forward sharply while pressing the shoot button to land a power shot to the top corner of the net, which the goalie rarely saves. When defending, do not spam the check button unnecessarily: mistimed checks will leave you out of position, and checking a player in the penalty box zone will result in an automatic penalty shot for your opponent. If you trigger a fight sequence (activated after 3 consecutive hard checks against the same skater), rapidly tap the hit button to win the fight: the losing player is sent off the ice for 2 minutes, giving your team a valuable man advantage. For penalty shots, decide your target corner before you start moving, then roll the trackball sharply in that direction the exact moment you press shoot to beat the goalie 90% of the time. When playing 2-player mode, assign one player to control defensive skaters and the other to handle offense to avoid both players chasing the same puck across the ice.
