Beast Busters (US, Version 2) is straightforward to pick up but challenging to master, even with its adjusted difficulty for Western players. First, master the core controls: aim your light gun at the screen to target enemies, pull the trigger to fire, and shoot off-screen to reload your default 12-round pistol magazine. Most arcade cabinets also include a secondary button on the light gun to activate special weapons you collect during levels. For solo players, prioritize high-threat enemies first: flying gargoyle mutants and rocket-launching mutated soldiers deal 2x more damage than regular grunts, and often attack from the edges of the screen where you might not notice them immediately. Take these out first before clearing out weaker standard enemies to avoid unnecessary health loss. If you’re playing with 2 or 3 co-op partners, split the screen into dedicated zones: assign one player to the left third, one to the middle, and one to the right third of the screen to eliminate overlap, save ammo, and ensure no incoming enemies slip through. When it comes to weapon drops, save your rocket launchers and machine gun pickups for boss fights: the machine gun has 50 rounds of continuous fire with no reload required, while rocket launchers deal massive area-of-effect damage. For specific level tips: in the Level 2 sewer stage, shoot the open mouth of lunging mutated alligators to take them out in one hit, instead of wasting ammo on their armored bodies. In the Level 4 laboratory stage, avoid shooting green chemical canisters unless they are surrounded by enemies, as they will explode and deal splash damage to you if you are too close. For the final boss fight against the mutated Dr. Brown, target the glowing red core on his chest exclusively, and use all your saved rocket launchers here to take him down before he can unleash his one-hit kill laser attack.
