Mastering Battle Field (Japan) is easy to pick up but hard to perfect, so follow these tips to clear all levels and set high scores. First, familiarize yourself with the core controls: use the 8-way joystick to move your character, the primary fire button to shoot your equipped weapon, and the secondary button to throw limited grenades that deal area-of-effect damage. Early in the game, prioritize taking out rocket launcher infantry first before standard foot soldiers, as their long-range blasts deal 2 full points of health damage, compared to 1 point from standard bullets. For armored tanks, never engage them head-on: their front armor is immune to standard gunfire, so circle around to their side or rear exhaust vents to deal critical damage, or use a single grenade to destroy them instantly to save ammo. Keep an eye out for breakable wooden crates and abandoned supply drums scattered across each level, as they hide valuable power-ups: the S power-up grants a wide spread shot that clears groups of enemies quickly, the R power-up boosts your fire rate by 70%, and the rare golden star exclusive to the Japanese version grants 10 seconds of invincibility, hidden in a crate next to the abandoned warehouse in level 3. For boss fights: the level 1 armored personnel carrier boss only takes damage to its front rocket launcher port, so stay out of its path to avoid being crushed. The level 2 attack helicopter boss alternates between strafing runs and missile barrages, so dodge horizontally instead of backward to avoid its blasts. Finally, the level 3 heavy tank boss has splash damage on its main cannon, so keep moving around concrete barriers and never stay in one spot for more than 2 seconds.
