Mastering Amidar relies on understanding enemy patterns and smart resource management, rather than fast reflexes alone. First, familiarize yourself with the basic controls: use your arrow keys to move across grid lines, and the action button to jump over enemies – note that you only get 3 jumps per standard level, so never waste them on avoidable situations. For fill-focused odd levels, start by completing small, 1x1 or 1x2 rectangular segments near the edge of the grid first: every time you complete a rectangle, all on-screen enemies are frozen for 2 full seconds, giving you a safe window to move to your next target. Avoid attempting large, full-grid rectangles until you have eliminated or lured all but 1 enemy away from the area, as being trapped mid-fill is the most common cause of game overs. For coconut-collecting even levels, prioritize collecting coconuts on the far side of the grid from the enemy spawn point first, and leave 2 to 3 easy-to-reach coconuts near the level exit for last, so you don’t have to cross the entire map with enemies on your tail to finish the stage. For high scores, aim to complete multiple rectangles in a row without taking damage, as you will earn a stacking combo bonus that can double or triple your per-rectangle points. If you find yourself cornered by multiple enemies, use a quick short path backward to lure them into a single line, then jump over the lead enemy and take the alternate route to escape. As you progress to higher levels, enemy speed increases significantly, so shift your focus from chasing high scores to completing small segments safely to extend your play time.
