Mastering Airwolf’s unique helicopter controls and weapon systems is key to beating all 8 levels and completing your missions. First, get familiar with the core movement mechanics: you can adjust your altitude freely across the screen, but avoid flying too low for too long, as ground-based anti-aircraft guns and surface-to-air missile launchers will target you almost instantly, and crashing into the ground or terrain will instantly cost you a life. Save your limited missile ammunition for high-value targets: your default vulcan cannon has unlimited ammo and works well for taking out light enemy fighter jets and small ground units, but missiles are the only weapon that can quickly destroy heavy armor, SAM sites, and boss weak points. When you reach hostage rescue segments, slow your movement and lower your altitude to roughly 2-3 helicopter lengths above the ground, and hover in place until all waiting hostages climb aboard. Do not touch the ground during this sequence, as even a light collision will deal heavy damage to your helicopter. Prioritize collecting all power-ups you see: blue “P” orbs upgrade your vulcan cannon to fire in 3 directions at once, drastically increasing your damage output against swarms of enemies, red “M” orbs refill your missile stock, and green “H” orbs restore lost health. For boss fights, always focus fire on their marked weak points instead of firing randomly: for example, the first level’s naval battleship boss only takes damage when its central main cannon is exposed right before firing. Dodge its incoming salvo, fire 2-3 missiles directly at the open cannon, and repeat 3 times to destroy it quickly. In later levels, watch out for kamikaze enemy jets that fly directly at your helicopter: pre-emptively move up or down to avoid their impact, as they deal enough damage to kill you in one hit if you are low on health.
