Zone of the Enders - The Fist of Mars (USA)

Released in 2001 exclusively for the Game Boy Advance by Konami, Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars (USA) is a tactical turn-based role-playing spin-off of the popular Zone of the Enders sci-fi mech franchise. Departing from the fast-paced action gameplay of the console entries in the series, this GBA-exclusive title caters to strategy fans, set in the same war-torn solar system decades after the initial conflict between Earth-based forces and colonial rebels on Mars. The story follows a young mercenary named Kage Miyakamura, who joins a small crew of freedom fighters opposing the oppressive Earth Alliance, as they uncover a dangerous conspiracy that threatens the future of all orbital colonies. You command customizable Orbital Frame mechs across a series of tactical grid-based battles, with branching dialogue paths that lead to multiple different endings based on your in-game choices. The game leverages the GBA’s hardware to deliver detailed mech sprites and a sweeping sci-fi soundt

Game Guide

If you’re new to Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars, these tips will help you navigate its tactical battles and unlock all the game’s hidden content. First, always prioritize resource allocation: every credit you earn from battles should go toward upgrading your core mechs first, rather than purchasing new generic units early in the game. Your main character’s Orbital Frame has the highest growth potential, so upgrading its armor and melee damage first will make all early story battles much easier. On the battlefield, always take advantage of terrain: high ground grants a 15% evasion boost and increases your attack accuracy, so position your long-range mechs on elevated tiles to avoid counterattacks. Always prioritize eliminating enemy long-range artillery units first, as they can deal heavy damage from across the map and pick off injured units before you can reach them. For boss battles, remember that most enemy Orbital Frames have a critical weak spot on their rear armor. Use faster mechs to circle around behind bosses to trigger guaranteed critical hits that cut boss fights in half. Use the GBA’s shoulder buttons (L and R) to quickly cycle through enemy targets instead of scrolling manually, which saves valuable time during tense tactical turns. Don’t skip optional side missions: completing every side contract unlocks a powerful hidden Orbital Frame and access to the game’s true ending, which adds more than an hour of extra story content. Always save your game at the end of every chapter, as the game does not offer mid-chapter save points, and a dead battery can erase your progress if you’re playing on original hardware. Finally, experiment with different team compositions: mixing one fast melee mech, two long-range units, and one support mech gives you the flexibility to handle any map objective, from rescue missions to full base assaults.
