Released as a pre-retail kiosk preview in 2004, Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (USA Kiosk Demo) is an early playable build of the iconic Game Boy Advance action-adventure co-developed by Capcom and Flagship, and published by Nintendo. The full game launched in North America that November, and this demo was created to let in-store players test the game's core mechanics ahead of purchase. The story follows Link, Hyrule's legendary hero, as he teams up with Ezlo, a magical talking cap, to save Princess Zelda after the evil sorcerer Vaati turns her to stone. The game's groundbreaking signature mechanic lets Link shrink down to the size of the tiny Minish (Picori) people, opening entirely new paths and perspectives across Hyrule that are inaccessible at full size. This kiosk demo covers the first 10 to 15 minutes of The Minish Cap, so use these tips to fully explore all content included in the preview. First, master your GBA controls: the A button handles interactions, NPC dialogue and item use, while the B button swings Link's sword. Hold the B button to charge a spin attack, which is perfect for defeating grouped small enemies. If you are playing online at PLAYERETRO, you can remap your control keys to match your preferred input setup. After collecting your first sword from Hyrule Town's blacksmith, head to the town square to trigger the opening cutscene with Ezlo and unlock the core shrinking ability. Remember that you can only shrink at special glowing blue Minish portals scattered across the map. When shrunk, tiny cracks in walls, small ledges and narrow paths become fully accessible, so always check every corner for hidden Rupees and Kinstone fragments. Early common enemies like Octoroks and Green ChuChus can be defeated with three quick sword swings; just roll with the R button to dodge their projectiles and avoid taking unnecessary damage. For the first cave puzzle in the demo, push the large stone block into the empty corner slot to unlock the exit door. If you want to collect all hidden items in the demo, check the small garden behind the mayor's house while shrunk to find a hidden chest with extra Rupees.
