Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 (USA Europe)

Released in 2002 by Activision, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 (USA Europe) is the official portable Game Boy Advance adaptation of the iconic skateboarding franchise, developed by Vicarious Visions to bring the beloved console experience to handheld hardware. Unlike earlier THPS entries that locked players into 2-minute timed score runs, this GBA release adopts the open-ended mission structure introduced in the 2002 console original, letting players explore large, detailed maps at their own pace while completing varied challenges. The game features 10 playable professional skateboarders, including franchise namesake Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Elissa Steamer, and Kareem Campbell, each with unique stats and signature tricks that fit different playstyles. Players can also create a fully custom skater, tweaking core stats and visual appearance to match their preferred approach to street and park skating. The GBA version squeezes impressive pseudo-3D visuals out of the handheld’s limited hardware,

Game Guide

Whether you are a first-time player or returning to the GBA version of Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 after years away, these tips will help you nail high-score combos and complete every challenge on your playthrough. First, master the core combo flow that makes the Tony Hawk franchise so rewarding: the standard chain is ollie off a ramp into a flip or grab trick, land into a grind on a rail, exit the grind into a manual, then roll into another ramp or rail to extend your combo. On GBA, A is for ollies, B triggers flip tricks, and the shoulder buttons initiate grinds and manuals. Never overlook manuals, as they are the key to connecting tricks across open terrain and stacking your combo multiplier, which is the only way to hit the high scores required for late-game challenges. For new players, take time to explore each map fully before tackling tough high-stakes challenges. Every main level hides five S-K-A-T-E letters scattered across high and low areas; most are placed near common trick spots, so you will collect them naturally as you complete missions, but keep an eye out for letters on top of half-pipes or hidden ledges that require extra momentum to reach. When creating a custom skater at the start of your career, prioritize extra points for Balance and Speed first. High Balance makes it far easier to stay on your board during long grinds and manuals, while Speed lets you travel across large maps quickly and build enough momentum to reach high, hard-to-reach spots. Saving points for trick difficulty or air can wait until you have a solid foundation to complete basic challenges. For high-score challenges, map out a looping route that connects multiple trick spots, such as a half-pipe linked to a set of rails that lead back to your starting point. This lets you build your multiplier higher and higher without ever resetting your combo. Finally, hunt for hidden tape collectibles in every level—unlocking all tapes unlocks secret playable characters and a bonus hidden level
