Super Mario Advance 2 - Super Mario World (USA Australia)

Released globally in 2001 by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance (GBA), *Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World* is a faithful enhanced port of the 1990 Super Nintendo Entertainment System classic platformer, tailored perfectly for portable play. This release marks the first time the iconic debut of Yoshi the dinosaur was made available on a handheld console, bringing the beloved adventure of Mario’s journey through Yoshi’s Island to players on the go. The core story follows Mario and Luigi as they travel across the vibrant, secret-filled world to rescue Princess Peach from the villainous Bowser, who has occupied Yoshi’s homeland and turned the Yoshi clan into eggs. Unlike many early ports, Super Mario Advance 2 retains every single level, secret exit, and hidden easter egg from the original SNES release, totaling 96 unique exits across multiple themed worlds ranging from lush jungles to snow-capped mountains and ghostly haunted houses. Nintendo also made thoughtful tweaks for the GBA:

Game Guide

Whether you’re a first-time player or returning to this GBA classic after decades, these tips and tricks will help you 100% complete Super Mario Advance 2 and uncover every hidden secret. First, master the core GBA controls: use the A button for standard jumps, hold B to run and build momentum for long distance jumps, and press A + B together to perform a spin jump. Spin jumps not only let you bounce off most enemies without taking damage, but they can also break special grey blocks that block access to hidden areas, so use them often when you’re exploring off the beaten path. Next, learn the unique strengths of different Yoshi colors: green Yoshis can eat any enemy and spit them out as projectiles, red Yoshis breathe fire after consuming an enemy, blue Yoshis can fly for a short time when you hold the jump button, and yellow Yoshis create a shockwave that stuns enemies and reveals hidden coins when you land from a jump. Always keep an eye out for hidden blocks above invisible platforms; many secret exits and extra 1-Up mushrooms are hidden in plain sight if you remember to jump and test empty spaces. To unlock the challenging Star Road and exclusive Special World, you need to find secret exits across every main world, so don’t just exit a level through the default door once you reach the end. For boss fights: each of Bowser’s Koopalings follows a simple pattern, wait for them to jump before you move to avoid their shockwave attacks, then land three stomps to defeat them. In the final Bowser fight on his airship, stomp the fireballs he throws to kick them back at him, repeating three times to claim victory. The GBA version’s flexible save system lets you save progress on the overworld map at any time, so always save before attempting a tricky hidden level or tough boss fight to avoid losing progress. If you’re playing the bonus Mario Bros. minigame with a friend, work together to clear enemies quickly and target higher-value crabs to rack up more points and extra li
