Whether you’re a first-time player or returning to this classic GBA port after decades, these tips will help you unlock all 96 levels and find every hidden secret in Super Mario Advance 2. First, master Yoshi’s core abilities to make tricky platforming sections much easier. If you hold the jump button after stomping an enemy, Yoshi will perform a small flutter jump that lets you reach higher ledges and make precision jumps over bottomless pits – this ability is essential for accessing many hidden secret exits across the map. Pay close attention to the color of any Yoshi egg you find: green is the standard all-around companion, but red Yoshis can turn any enemy you eat into a fireball to take out far-off threats, blue Yoshis can fly for a short time when they hold an enemy in their mouth, and yellow Yoshis create a damaging shockwave when they stomp, which can break hidden blocks under your feet that hold coins or extra lives. Next, always explore off the beaten path in every level. Many secret exits are hidden behind semi-transparent blocks that you can only reveal by hitting a hidden P-switch or carrying a P-balloon to the hidden area. If you see a row of coins that looks suspicious or an empty gap with no obvious path, try jumping around to reveal hidden 1-up blocks or a pipe that leads to a secret area. To unlock the incredibly challenging Special Zone, you need to find the secret exit in Forest of Illusion 2 to unlock Star Road, then find all five secret exits in the Star Road levels to open the path to the Special Zone. The Special Zone has 8 ultra-hard levels that will test even the most experienced Mario players, and beating all of them will unlock a custom color palette for the entire game as a fun cosmetic reward. If you’re struggling to beat Bowser in his final castle, remember to dodge his fire breath, jump on his mech hand when it slams down, then throw the bouncing Mechakoopa back at him to deal damage – repeat this three times and you’ll claim victory.
