Star X (USA) (EnFrDeEsItNl)

Released in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance (GBA), Star X (USA) brings fast-paced arcade-style top-down space shooting to Nintendo’s iconic handheld, with built-in support for six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Dutch for a broad audience of players across North America and Europe. Developed by UK-based studio Graphic State and published by Majesco Entertainment, this budget-friendly shooter casts players as the pilot of the elite Star X prototype fighter, tasked with stopping a violent alien armada from invading and conquering the solar system. Unlike many early GBA shooters that suffered from choppy frame rates or clunky controls, Star X is optimized perfectly for the GBA’s hardware, delivering smooth scrolling gameplay, vibrant pixel art backdrops ranging from dense asteroid fields to neon-lit alien space stations, and dynamic enemy movement that keeps every level tense and engaging. The game features 15 distinct levels spread across five unique galactic sect

Game Guide

Mastering Star X on GBA relies on balancing smart movement, strategic resource use, and prioritizing the right power-ups to make it through the full campaign and chase high scores. First, get comfortable with the core controls: the D-pad manages your fighter’s movement, A fires your infinite primary blaster, and B triggers your limited screen-clearing bombs. One of the most common mistakes new players make is wasting bombs on small enemy swarms early in the game. Always save at least two full bombs for mid-boss ambushes and final sector boss fights, as these encounters often unleash unexpected spreads of projectiles that are nearly impossible to dodge without clearing the screen. When it comes to power-ups, prioritize the triple-shot upgrade over all other picks in the first three sectors. The triple shot drastically increases your damage output and covers a much wider portion of the screen, making it far easier to clear swarms of small enemies before they can surround you. Only grab extra speed power-ups if you are comfortable with your current movement speed; a second speed boost makes your fighter so responsive that it is easy to accidentally crash into asteroids or stray projectiles, especially in the dense asteroid levels of Sector 2. For boss fights, always focus fire on the visible glowing weak point: every boss in Star X marks its vulnerable spot, which takes twice as much damage as other parts of the enemy craft. Don’t waste time firing on small appendages unless they are actively attacking you; keep your fire locked on the weak point to end the fight as quickly as possible. If you struggle with the final boss, the Overmind, remember it shifts its weak point between three positions every 10 seconds. Stay mobile in the bottom third of the screen to avoid most projectiles, and only move up to fire when the weak point is exposed to minimize your risk of taking damage.
