Simple 2960 Tomodachi Series Vol 2 - The Block Kuzushi (Japan) (Rev 1)

Simple 2960 Tomodachi Series Vol 2 - The Block Kuzushi (Japan) (Rev 1) is a polished portable arcade puzzle game released exclusively for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) in 2002 by Japanese publisher D3 Publisher. As part of D3 Publisher’s popular low-price Simple 2960 series, this entry is the second volume of the Tomodachi (Friend) line, focused on delivering accessible, pick-up-and-play fun for casual gamers on the go. Block Kuzushi translates directly to “block breaking” in English, and this title is a modern take on the classic Breakout arcade formula, optimized perfectly for GBA’s handheld form factor. This Rev 1 revision fixed several minor gameplay bugs and collision issues present in the original launch version, resulting in a smoother, more reliable gameplay experience for players. The game features over 100 unique levels with varying block layouts, special power-ups, and challenging obstacle blocks that keep gameplay engaging from start to finish. Unlike more complex GBA titles,

Game Guide

If you’re new to Simple 2960 Tomodachi Series Vol 2 - The Block Kuzushi, start with mastering the core controls first: use the GBA left and right directional buttons to move your paddle at the bottom of the screen, press the A button to launch your ball after each life loss, and press B to activate any held power-ups once you collect them. A core beginner tip to avoid unnecessary life losses is to stop chasing the ball with your paddle: instead, watch the ball’s trajectory early, move to the predicted landing spot slowly, and wait for the ball to hit your paddle. This small habit cuts down on overcorrection mistakes that cause most early-game losses. Next, prioritize power-ups: the multi-ball power-up is the most useful for clearing dense levels quickly, as it lets you clear multiple blocks at once and gives you a buffer if one ball falls off the screen. The expanded paddle and sticky paddle power-ups are also great for new players: sticky paddle lets you hold the ball to reposition before launching, which is perfect for lining up tricky shots on hard-to-reach blocks. Avoid the shrink paddle power-up at all costs, as it makes accurate hits much harder for casual players. For harder levels with multiple-hit blocks and indestructible obstacle blocks, target explosion blocks first: one hit on an explosion block clears all adjacent blocks, which can take out hard-to-reach multiple-hit blocks in one go. In late-game levels with tight, irregular block layouts, use side-wall bounces to angle your ball into gaps that your direct shots can’t reach. Thanks to the Rev 1 update, all power-ups work consistently, so don’t hesitate to use them as soon as you collect them to make your playthrough easier.
