Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children - Hikari no Sho (Japan)

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children - Hikari no Sho (Book of Light) is a 2001 role-playing game developed by Multimedia Intelligence Transfer and published exclusively by Atlus for the Game Boy Advance in Japan. Launched as one half of a paired release alongside its counterpart Yami no Sho (Book of Darkness), this spin-off of the popular Shin Megami Tensei franchise was designed to bring the series' signature demon collection and fusion gameplay to a younger, portable audience. The story follows a young middle school protagonist whose older brother and close friend are mysteriously transported to the Netherworld, a parallel realm populated by demons that connects to the human world through a hidden digital network. After awakening the ability to form contracts with demons, the protagonist crosses into the Netherworld to rescue their loved ones and uncover the truth behind a world-ending threat looming over both realms. Unlike darker, more mature mainline Shin Megami Tensei titles, Hikar

Game Guide

Shin Megami Tcenti Devil Children - Hikari no Sho's core loop of demon collecting, fusion, and exploration rewards strategic planning over mindless grinding, so follow these tips to make your journey through the Netherworld smoother. Early in the game, you will be prompted to choose your starting demon: as a Light version exclusive, pick Amaterasu for high early-game Light damage that will carry you through the first three dungeons, as most early bosses are Dark-aligned and weak to Light attacks. Prioritize unlocking the Demon Fusion Altar as soon as you reach the first main hub, and fuse your lowest-level demons every 3-5 level ups to unlock higher stats and new, more powerful skills. Avoid keeping redundant skills on your team: stick to one main elemental attack per demon, one support buff skill, and one healing skill to keep your team flexible for any encounter. For early dungeon progression, make sure you grab the Rock Smash skill from an early NPC, as breakable rocks throughout every dungeon hide rare demon eggs and treasure chests that give you powerful items and early-game rare demons. Save frequently at the terminal save points scattered across dungeons: the game has no auto-save, and a single misstep against a late dungeon boss can cost you hours of progress if you don't save regularly. If you have the ability to trade with players who own Yami no Sho, prioritize trading for exclusive Dark-aligned demons to round out your team, as late-game bosses often have mixed alignments that require a balanced team of both Light and Dark types. Finally, don't skip side quests: most side quests reward you with rare fusion materials that let you unlock high-level legendary demons long before you reach the end of the main story.
