Whether you’re revisiting Pokémon Edición Zafiro after decades or playing this classic GBA adventure for the first time, these tips will help you have a smooth, successful journey through the Hoenn region. Start by picking your starter Pokémon wisely: if you’re a new player, Mudkip is the best choice for a low-difficulty run. Its Water/Ground typing gives it immunity to Electric-type attacks, and it can beat the first six gyms almost single-handedly. Treecko is a great pick for experienced players who want a faster-paced challenge, thanks to its high speed and strong Grass-type moves, while Torchic easily handles the first Rock-type gym but struggles against early Electric and Water-type opponents. When you’re ready to catch the legendary mascot Kyogre, you’ll find it deep in the underwater cave on Route 128 after defeating Team Aqua. Come prepared: bring at least 30 Ultra Balls, a Pokémon that knows False Swipe to lower Kyogre’s health to 1 without knocking it out, and a Pokémon with a sleep or paralysis move to boost your capture rate. For gym progression, remember to type-match correctly: use Fire or Ground moves for the first Rock gym, Flying or Psychic for the second Fighting gym, Ground for the third Electric gym, Water or Ground for the fourth Fire gym, Fighting for the fifth Normal gym, Electric/Ice for the sixth Flying gym, Ghost/Dark for the seventh double Psychic gym, and Electric/Grass for the eighth Water gym. Keep a separate “HM slave” Pokémon to learn all the field moves like Cut, Surf, Strength, and Flash, so you don’t waste valuable move slots on your core battle team. Finally, if you want to complete the full National Pokédex, trade with Pokémon Edición Rojo Fuego or Edición Rubi players to get version-exclusive Pokémon like Groudon that don’t appear in Edición Zafiro.
