MX 2002 featuring Ricky Carmichael (USA Europe)

MX 2002 featuring Ricky Carmichael launched globally for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) in 2001, published by THQ, with development handled by Left Field Productions. Released as a cross-region title for both North American and European markets, this licensed motocross racing game was one of the first full-featured off-road racing titles to hit Nintendo’s newly launched 32-bit handheld, bringing console-style motocross action to portable players for the first time. The game centers on the sport of professional supercross and outdoor motocross, headlined by legendary rider Ricky Carmichael, one of the most successful motocross athletes of all time. Players can choose from 10 real-life professional motocross riders, each with their own unique handling stats and custom licensed bike liveries, and race across 12 faithfully recreated real-world tracks, ranging from tight, technical supercross arenas to wide, open outdoor motocross circuits. Unlike many early GBA racing titles that relied on sim

Game Guide

Whether you’re a first-time player jumping into MX 2002 on GBA or a returning veteran looking to improve your lap times, these tips will help you master this classic motocross racer. First, master throttle and brake control, the most important skill in the game. Many new players make the mistake of holding full throttle non-stop throughout the race, but this almost always leads to crashes on uneven terrain and botched landings. Instead, ease off the throttle 10-20% before you hit a jump or reach the peak of a jump, this lets you level out your bike for a smooth landing and avoid wiping out. For turns, never slam on the brakes mid-turn; instead, tap the brake gently to slow down before you enter the turn, then roll on the throttle smoothly as you exit to maintain traction and avoid sliding out. Next, perfect your jumping technique to gain critical time over your opponents. Use the GBA shoulder buttons to adjust your bike’s weight mid-air: if your front wheel is dropping too fast and you’re going to nose-dive, press the lean back button to level out your angle. If you’re over-rotating and going to land on your back fender, press lean forward to correct. Learn to scrub jumps, too: by cutting into the inside of the jump face and leaning your bike mid-air, you can lower your trajectory and carry more speed through the following turn, a trick that lets you pass multiple riders over the course of a lap. For rider selection, new players should always start with Ricky Carmichael, who has the highest all-around stats for speed, handling, and stability, making it much easier to learn the game’s physics without fighting your bike. Once you’re comfortable, you can pick other riders that fit your racing style: choose higher top speed riders for long outdoor motocross tracks, and higher handling riders for tight supercross arenas. For championship mode, prioritize consistent finishes over risky passes. It’s better to finish 3rd or 4th than crash trying to take the lead on the firs
