Monster AG Die (Germany)

Released in 2001 for the Game Boy Advance (GBA), Monster AG Die (Germany) is the German-localized version of the THQ-published platform adventure game tied to Disney Pixar’s hit animated film Monsters, Inc. (released as Monster AG in German-speaking markets). Developed by Vicarious Visions, this GBA adaptation brings the chaotic, charming world of Monstropolis to Nintendo’s iconic handheld, with full German text and localization tailored for German players. The game follows protagonists James P. "Sulley" Sullivan and Mike Wazowski as they work to protect the human child Boo and return her safely home, while evading the scheming Randall Boggs and the corrupt CEO of Monsters, Incorporated. Gameplay blends classic 2D platform jumping, light puzzle-solving, and character-specific abilities, with a mix of linear levels and optional secret areas to explore. Unlike many early licensed handheld games, Monster AG Die retains the humor and heart of the original film, with tight platforming contr

Game Guide

Before you jump into Monstropolis, mastering core mechanics of Monster AG Die will help you navigate every level with ease. First, get comfortable with character switching: use the GBA shoulder buttons to swap between Sulley and Mike at any time, as each has unique abilities for different challenges. Sulley has higher strength, can push heavy crates, jump higher, and take more damage from enemies, making him ideal for combat and open platforming sections. Mike is smaller, so he can fit through narrow gaps and sneak past patrolling CDA agents without being detected, and his flashlight can stun enemies for quick escapes when you don’t want to fight. For early levels, focus on collecting all Scream Canisters scattered across each stage; you need a set number of canisters to unlock the next main area, so don’t rush through too quickly. If you encounter CDA agents, use Sulley to throw crates at them to knock them out, or hide behind large objects with Mike to sneak past without triggering a difficult chase. When you reach the final boss fight against Randall Boggs, his primary attack is an invisible dash across the screen. Wait for him to leave a faint dust trail that reveals his path, then move to the nearest pillar to lure him into crashing into it. Once he’s stunned, switch to Sulley and tackle him to deal damage — repeat this three times to defeat him. Don’t forget to collect Boo’s lost hair bows hidden in each level; each bow gives you an extra life, which is critical for tougher late-game levels. Save your game at every save station you find near level exits, and if you’re low on health, backtrack to the previous safe area to regenerate before pushing forward. One helpful secret: there’s a hidden extra life in the Warehouse level by crawling through the narrow opening on the left wall behind the first crate stack — this comes in handy if you’re running low on lives before the mid-boss fight.
