Start by getting comfortable with the side-step drift mechanic: tapping the L or R shoulder buttons lets you nudge your car left or right to adjust your racing line through tight turns without losing significant speed, which is far more effective than hitting the brake, which will drop your position drastically. Always prioritize holding the inside line through turns; this cuts down total lap time significantly and lets you block opponents from passing you on the inside during competitive Grand Prix races. Next, manage your energy bar carefully: your energy acts as both your health and your boost resource. You can refill energy by driving over the blue pit strips along the edges of most tracks, but only pit when you have 20% or more energy remaining. Waiting until you are about to explode will cost you far too much time and can cost you the race. Save your speed boosts for long straightaways and exit ramps out of turns, not for short straight sections where you will have to brake immediately after boosting. For higher difficulty Grand Prix runs, pick a pilot that matches your skill level: new players should stick to balanced pilots like Captain Falcon, who have solid acceleration and grip, instead of high-top-speed, low-grip pilots that are much harder to control.
