To get the most out of your playthrough of Final Fantasy IV Advance, start by mastering the Active Time Battle (ATB) system: unlike traditional turn-based RPGs, actions happen as soon as your character’s speed bar fills, so you need to prioritize actions based on enemy movement. For the first major boss, the Mist Dragon, avoid attacking when it shifts to its mist form – it will counter with a party-wide freezing attack that can wipe your low-level team. Bring at least 5 potions and have Cecil tank damage while Rosa heals through the fight. As you progress through the story, prioritize boosting Cecil’s defense once he becomes a Paladin after the Mt. Ordeal trial; he will be your core frontline tank for the entire rest of the game. Rydia, your summoner and black mage, is your highest damage dealer, so save all magic-boosting accessories and augment items for her to melt tough bosses. One of the biggest draws of this GBA version is its exclusive post-game content: after you defeat final boss Zeromus and complete the main story, save your cleared file to unlock the 50-floor Lunar Ruins dungeon, where you can earn ultimate weapons for every playable character. If you take on the optional super boss Gilgamesh, bring plenty of echo herbs to counter his silence spell, and focus fire on his body after taking out his arms to end the fight quickly. For the final main story fight against Zeromus, equip Ribbons on all party members to block debilitating status effects, and keep Rosa casting Shell and Curaga to survive his powerful cosmic magic attacks.
