Dungeons Dragons - Eye of the Beholder (USA)

Released in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance by publisher Infogrames, Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Beholder (USA) brings the iconic tabletop-derived D&D adventure to handheld platforms, adapting the beloved 1991 PC RPG of the same name for accessible on-the-go play. Set in the fan-favorite Forgotten Realms campaign setting, the game opens in the coastal city of Waterdeep, where your custom party of four adventurers is hired by Lord Piergeiron the Paladinson to investigate a wave of mysterious disappearances tied to the winding, monster-infested depths of Undermountain. The mastermind behind the chaos is Xanathar, a ruthless beholder crime lord building power under the city to seize control of Waterdeep itself. This GBA adaptation stays true to core 2nd Edition AD&D rules, letting players fully customize their party before diving into dungeon crawls. You can choose from 12 character classes including fighter, wizard, thief, and cleric, each with unique abilities, spell lists, and progres

Game Guide

Mastering Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Beholder on GBA starts with intentional party building, the most critical step before you enter Undermountain. For new and veteran players alike, never skip including a cleric and a magic user in your four-person party. A cleric is non-negotiable for out-of-combat healing, removing poison and curse effects, and turning undead enemies that swarm the early dungeon levels, while a wizard unlocks magically sealed doors, controls groups of weak enemies with area-of-effect spells, and deals massive damage to high-health bosses later in the game. The most reliable beginner-friendly setup is one fighter, one rogue, one cleric, and one wizard, which lets you handle every challenge from locked chests and trapped corridors to tough boss fights. When exploring, always move one grid space at a time in uncharted areas: hidden traps are extremely common, and rushing through new rooms will often leave your party crippled before you even spot an enemy. Keep at least three torches and two ropes in your shared inventory at all times; torches reveal hidden doors in dark rooms, while rope lets you cross deep chasms that would instantly kill a fallen party member. For combat, always place your high-armor fighter in the front slot of your formation to block enemies from reaching your squishier spellcasters. Use low-level crowd control spells like sleep early on to clear groups of goblins and bandits without taking unnecessary damage, and save your highest-level spell slots exclusively for boss fights. When looting, check every textured wall for secret doors – use detect magic spells or your rogue's trap skill to reveal hidden areas with rare loot, extra XP, and shortcuts that cut down on backtracking. For the final fight against Xanathar the beholder, stock up on protection from magic potions before entering his lair. Xanathar's eye rays deal massive magical damage that can one-shot low-constitution party members, and these potions drastically redu
