Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow (USA)

Master the innovative Tactical Soul system first, as it’s the core of all progression and combat in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. Souls are divided into four categories: Bullet, Guardian, Enchant, and Ability, and you can mix and match any combination to fit your preferred playstyle. Early in the game, the Skeleton Bullet soul is an excellent cheap long-range option for taking out enemies from a distance, while the Bat Wing Guardian soul offers great mobility for crossing wide gaps before you unlock Double Jump. To unlock the game’s true, canonical good ending, you must collect three specific boss souls before facing the final cult leader Graham Jones: the Flame Demon, Giant Bat, and Succubus souls. If you enter the final boss fight without these three souls, you’ll be locked into the bad ending, so prioritize grinding for these drops if you haven’t obtained them naturally. For exploration, always keep your Sliding ability (unlocked after defeating the Minotaur boss early in the game) ready — many hidden areas and narrow passages can only be accessed by sliding. Once you unlock Double Jump, backtrack through older areas to reach previously out-of-reach platforms that hold rare items and powerful souls. If you’re struggling to get rare soul drops, equip the Luck Boost enchant soul and the Golden Ring accessory to drastically increase your drop rate. For boss fights, study their simple but deadly patterns: the Minotaur only uses charge and slam attacks, so just slide under his charges and attack from his back to take him down easily. When facing Graham Jones, keep at least two high potions handy and stick to long-range bullet attacks to avoid his devastating screen-wide magic blasts. Finally, always test suspicious walls with your whip — many of the castle’s walls are breakable, hiding rare weapons, armor, and unique souls that make late-game exploration much easier.
