Whether you’re playing through Wrath of the Darkhul King for the first time or revisiting this GBA classic, these tips will help you take down the Darkhul King and save Sunnydale without too many frustrating deaths. First, master your core combat: your wooden stake is always the most reliable weapon against vampires. Always stun a vampire with a quick kick or slap combo before landing a finishing stake to kill them permanently; this also guarantees they will drop a health pickup, which saves your more powerful limited-use weapons like holy water grenades and crossbow bolts for tougher enemies and bosses. Next, always choose the right Scooby Gang ally for your current level. Each helper offers a unique special ability that makes exploration much easier: Willow can reveal hidden vampire nests and break magical barriers that block secret paths, Xander can disarm deadly poison dart traps and open locked industrial doors, and Giles can refill your full health bar and give you a hint for tricky puzzles if you get stuck. If you’re heading into the cemetery or sewer levels, bring Willow to unlock extra hidden areas with bonus loot; if you’re playing the factory or warehouse levels, Xander will save you from taking unnecessary trap damage. For boss fights, the most important rule is to avoid standing still. For mid-game bosses like the Shadow Priest in the cemetery level, he will constantly summon waves of skeleton minions, so clear out the minions first before focusing damage on the boss, and never stay in the green poison pools he summons. For the final fight against the Darkhul King, he has two phases: in his first phase, he uses heavy melee swipes that deal massive damage, so dodge roll behind him to attack his unarmored back for extra damage. In his second phase, he takes to the air and spams homing fireballs, so keep moving around the arena and use your saved crossbow bolts to shoot him down out of the sky, then finish him off with stake combos.
