Backyard Sports - Basketball 2007 (USA)

Released in 2006 by Atari for the Game Boy Advance (GBA), Backyard Sports - Basketball 2007 (USA) is a kid-friendly, casual take on 5-on-5 basketball that deviates from the rigid rules of pro league games to deliver accessible, on-the-go fun for retro handheld fans. Part of the long-running Backyard Sports franchise, this North American exclusive title reimagines popular NBA stars of the mid-2000s as cartoon children playing pick-up basketball on informal backyard, neighborhood, and park courts across the country. Unlike simulation-focused NBA games of the era, Backyard Sports Basketball 2007 prioritizes casual, pick-up-and-play gameplay that fits perfectly with the GBA’s portable design. It features simplified controls, lighthearted commentary, and customizable teams that let you mix and match your favorite backyard characters and pro athlete kids to create your dream pick-up squad. The pixel art graphics are optimized for the GBA’s screen, with bright, charming character designs and

Game Guide

Whether you’re a first-time player jumping into Backyard Sports - Basketball 2007 for the GBA or a returning fan brushing up on your pick-up skills, these tips will help you dominate every backyard court. First, start by choosing your roster strategically: each character has clear stat strengths, so build a balanced team with at least one high-shooting outside threat and one strong rebounder for the paint. If you’re new to the game, pick characters with high speed and handling stats first, as they make it easier to break past defenders and set up easy scoring chances. Mastering the shooting timing is the most important skill for consistent wins: hold the A button to charge your shot, and release it just as your player reaches the peak of their jump for a perfect release. You’ll see a small green flash when your timing is right, which drastically increases your chance of making even long three-point shots. For defense, use the B button to steal when an opponent is dribbling close to your player, and press the shoulder button to quickly switch to the player closest to the ball to cut off passing lanes. Remember that every court has unique bounce physics: cement courts have higher, more predictable bounces, while grass and gravel courts have irregular bounces that make rebound positioning even more important. To unlock hidden characters and bonus courts, win every tournament in the single-player season mode. Don’t skip practicing the free-throw minigame either — nailing free throws can win you close games in the final seconds. If you’re playing with a friend in local multiplayer, use quick fast passes to keep the defense off-balance and open up easy layups for a fast victory.
