Before starting your rescue adventure as Babar, get familiar with the core GBA controls to set yourself up for success: the A button handles jumping, the B button triggers your powerful trunk swing attack, and the L and R buttons let you grab and throw objects like crates, fruit, and stolen nets to stun enemies or reach hidden platforms. One of the most underused tips for new players is to always check every off-path side route: almost all hidden extra lives, health refills, and unlockable franchise art are tucked away in unmarked side areas that don’t appear on the game’s basic in-game map. For regular enemies like poacher hounds and rogue jungle monkeys, wait for them to approach within close range before swinging your trunk. Spamming the attack button leaves you open to damage, so timing your strikes is key to saving health. When facing human poachers that throw nets, jump over their incoming net throw first to avoid getting stunned, then attack from their unprotected back to take them down in one hit. Collect as many bananas as you can throughout every level: 100 bananas will automatically grant you an extra life, which is critical for the trickier boss fights and late-game mountain levels. For the final boss fight against the lead poacher, stay on the upper platforms when he charges across the screen, then drop down and strike his back three times to defeat him and finish your rescue mission. If you find the difficulty too steep on a first playthrough, enter the code Up, Up, Down, A, B at the title screen to unlock infinite lives and maximum full health.
